A team of authors, among them research associate M.Sc. Martin Weier, who are part of the BRSU focal research area on Visual Computing (Hochschulschwerpunkt Visual Computing) has received the Best Paper Award at the GI Workshop on Virtual and Augmented Reality at the University of Applied Sciences in Wedel (September 15-16, 2011).
Martin Weier's thesis has been supervised by Prof. Dr. André Hinkenjann (BRSU Department of Computer Science) and Prof. Dr. Phillipp Slusallek (German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence - DFKI in Saarbrücken).
Martin Weier, André Hinkenjann, Georg Demme, Philipp Slusallek: SILVA: System to Instantiate Large Vegetated Areas.
Roland Müller, master thesis: „An OGC Sensor Observation Service for GPS and mobile Sensors“. In his work he descibes the conception, implementation and measuring of a GIS sensor server. Within the context of an emergency support system the emergency forces can utilize up-to-date data that is being compiled by mobile sensors. The supervisor was Prof. Paul G. Ploeger who also has submitted the thesis.
Prize: 3.000 €
The jury members were very pleased with the high quality of the reviewed theses and therefore proposed to honour also the rest of the contestants. The remaining seven authors will receive a travel allowance of 1.000€ for attending a scientific conference pertaining to their area of research.
Two more awardees are graduates of our department: Thomas Breuer (supervisor Prof. Ploeger) and Martin Weier, who is a research associate.
